The following are the four stages in our program and their emphases:
Stage1: Nursery–Kindergarten: Movement through Space/Time in Different Settings
Introduction to movement, fitness skills, throwing and kicking mechanics, music movement, hand/eye coordination, fine/gross motor skills, locomotor (walk, run, hop, jump, side-slide gallop, skip) nonlocomotor (bending stretching)
Stage 2: First –Third Grades: Introduction to lead-up activities and sportsmanship
Locomotor skills (walk, run, hop, jump, side-slide gallop, skip), hand/eye coordination, tag/cooperative games, social interaction through games, lead-up sport games, cooperation, spatial awareness, fine/gross motor development, basic fitness concepts. This stage emphasizes opportunities for individual success as well as an appreciation and acceptance of the other’s differences.
Stage 3: Fourth- Fifth Grades: Advanced movement, sports, and activities
Basic skills, rules and terminology of games and sports will be introduced, games based on the social, emotional, and physical needs of this age. Sports include indoor/outdoor soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball, softball, team handball, and a variety of cooperative skills. Social skills will emphasize sportsmanship and personal improvement, advance fitness skills are incorporated and fitness challenge begins at this level.
Stage 4: Sixth-Eighth Grade: Implementing Strategies and Advance skills
The implementation of advanced rules and terminology of sports and games will be taught further. A continuation of sports learned in the fourth/fifth grade will be built upon. Social skills, sportsmanship, and personal improvements will continue to be emphasized.
