Programs that enhance our students’ learning experience are a hallmark of SAR education. Challenging our students through interactions with mentors, scholars-in-residence, and guest lecturers from across the disciplines, gives them the tools to better understand and engage the world. Your support of these programs can influence our students’ learning and lives. The best learning happens when minds are inspired! Current programs include:
- Beit Midrash Fellows
Israeli and American scholars add vibrancy and diversity to the SAR Beit Midrash. On a daily basis these fellows interact and learn with our students. They are wonderful role models and mentors.
- Science Experience
Through guest lecturers, hands-on-study, and extracurricular programming, students at SAR Academy and High School are exposed to the Sciences not just as another classbut as an exciting and relevant part of their lives.
- Artist-in-Residence
Each semester the High School hosts an artist who sets up studio at the school. The students are exposed to the artist’s talents and have a hands-on role in the artistic production from start to finish.
- Learning to Look
This art appreciation course at the Academy, led by parent volunteers, provides an introduction to different elements of art, such as line, perspective, shape and space, along with some of the world’s great works including those by Van Gogh, Cezzane and Goya. The course presents paintings for students to evaluate, followed by hands-on activities such as drawing portraits or landscapes.
- Cultural Arts
At SAR we believe the role of music, art, and theatre should not be overlooked in a Jewish day school. Each year the Academy brings a variety of top cultural art programs, performances, speakers and exhibitions to the student body. The programs are selected for many reasons including their relevance to the school curriculum, the unique nature of the program and its quality, and our desire to expose the students to different cultural arts. In the High School, the students are given the opportunity to be part of a major annual school drama production complete with set, costumes, props and professional direction.
- Chesed In Action
Chesed is part an integral part of Jewish living, and so it is an important component of our curriculum. In 2005, the parent body launched the first community wide SAR Chesed Day where over 500 people participated in almost 20 community service projects. At the High School the students focus on their responsibility as world citizens by allocating time in their week for Advisory selected chesed programs. There are numerous components to the programwith students selecting their projects, marketing their activities in order to raise needed funds, and engaging in a wide range of community service activities.
