This morning the Academy joined together to celebrate a Siyum Tanach in the merit of Chava Yocheved Bat Sarah. The ELC marched up the steps for their Bikkurim parade. The children wore special crowns they had designed for this special occasion. Grades 1-8, faculty, and staff then joined Rabbi Krauss on the steps. Emma Schenker, 3W, gave a welcome dvar torah on Shavuot.

Rabbi Krauss explained that after Pesach, the SAR faculty and staff decided to learn torah and do a siyum in honor of Shavuot. The learning included the entire Tanach! Jenny Sokol gave a dvar torah from Torah, Chavie Wilner gave a dvar torah from Navi and Sharon Sturm (Morah Golda) gave a dvar torah from Ketuvim. Chazzan Shim Craimer led the children in song and Rabbi Krauss made the siyum.

It was a very meaningful morning and we hope that our learning and tefilot will be heard.

With wonderful weather and fantastic facilities, the 5^th grade is having a great time at Greenkill Nature Center. After a day of team building, a campfire and a night awareness hike, the children woke up ready and eager for a hike and other great outdoor activities.

This morning the SAR community joined Medinat Yisrael in commemorating Yom Hazikaron by honoring and remembering those chayalim who sacrificed their lives while defending the State of Israel.  After tefillah, students in grades 1-3 gathered together for a brief program about Yom Hazikaron.  Students in grades 4-8 attended a tekes (ceremony), performed by students in the Junior High. The program beautifully narrated through songs and letters, stories of a few different Israeli soldiers who were killed during their service in the Israel Defense Forces.

Several chayalim who are currently studying at YU, came to participate in the program and some visited with grades 4, 5 & 6 this afternoon. The students heard from Daniel Landesman, Jack Sztrigler and Noam Tokayer. Noam Tokayer is an SAR alumn and the kids loved that he had some of the same teachers they have! These former soldiers shared some of their army experiences with the kids and answered many excellent questions. It was a meaningful day for all of the students and we look forward to celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut together tomorrow!
